Can you please explain what you mean by "works properly, without any issues"?  If I'm farming 12-6 Brutal, there are rounds when attacks hit him and it shows the passive working, and then there are other rounds when it doesn't seem to reduce the damage at all.  His "passive" feels very inconsistent.  There's not a cooldown on it or anything like that, so in my mind the damage reduction should be constant.  If this is not the case, the in-game description needs to be updated to reflect what it actually does.

I can confirm that his passive works but once in a great while, i have him for about 3 months and he is maxed out on 5 stars + ascended, and because his passive is still a mess i didn't bother taking him further. His passive damage reduction never triggered while there are active allies. I've seen it trigger once or twice when all allies were dead and he was left standing alone and even then it triggered once.

To be honest the skill's description is either misleading or the skill is just broken. Fix something
