Yea I've noticed these as well, though i have also observed that the items seem to have a cheaper price with the gold border, though that's hard to prove at this point, i've just seen some 5 star gear that normally cost like 400k been around 150-180k.
Not sure about rare...
Currently have in my market: 1 star, accuracy boots, uncommon, flat def, crit damage substat. $8,100 silver.
Might need to look at that gold border algorithm.
From Marius' post, I think he is saying It's not rarity of item per se, but rarity of the particular stats for that item slot.Not sure about rare...
