I keep getting free barrels of potions, then opening them in Alchemist Shop, then mixing them, but then nothing happens. Where r the mixed potions and what do I do with them?

you mix potions to level them up, higher level potions give bigger bonusses. you can use up to 3 potions to increase the offense or defense of a unit type. they can be applied in the storage tab of the potions building. if you want to change a potion for a different one, you might need a coil to get the old potion out without destroying it.

I understand the mixing part and did it many times already. How do I recognize that it has any specific offense or defense benefits or upgrades of my units, or anything?

put your cursor on it, it should give you the specifics, like the type of unit it's for and if it's an offensive or defensive potion.

I extracted a level 8 potion using a coil . my troops have no sign of the potions attributes being applied to them. is there something i'm missing?

you use coils to extract potions that are already applied. so if you extracted a potion, your troops should no longer have the benefits from that potion. from what i understand from your question, everything is working as it should be.
