Not till you hit level 30 i believe, but whats going to catch you is the resources that you need,

Now its no different from upgrading buildings.

In short 

Spend the $$$ & be a mighty captain 

devs may aswell create a special button that completes all discoveries for 5$.

50 etchlings for every tournament vs getting 1k  for only 10.000 rubies (5$-8$ for me)

it's not so bad idea, you get to discover each one until level 31 and 32 those are the only 2 that cost etchings 

many upgrades will cost you 220k+ resources , and for that u need etchings to upgrade warehouse and cellar for capacity 

not really i been working on my Hydros and haven't had to work on my buildings yet 

Im getting feed back so far that once you get up there it's higher and u need only upgrade rum cellar with etchings to fix it

I haven't gotten in the 30's yet so far i have a few set to 25, ran out of boost and raids

Some of them will require upgrade etchings, looks like you didn't read main post 

Before 30 , you will have to upgrade your warehouse / rum cellars past level 20 that requires etchings too.

No matter if it requires after 28, 30 or maybe even on 31.

those $$$ spenders are going to have unfair advantage.

It just doesn't stops to that, there are many other things which if i may put here than it can cause lot of drama.

try with  Physics, Slipway , Colonization , Dynamo....... im not assuming, i know that you need to upgrade cellar for that

Good thing we get etchings free now in the tournaments .. now old and new players have something to work on to gain something in the game
