You'll not get current premium weapons from random crate drops. Events or cold, hard cash is the only way, However sometimes the special stuff does get moved to the credit or a-coins store after it's been premium for a while.

Panther and Lancer are my most-used Mechs (I love my jumpy boi, with twin Javelins and the ability to get up on rooftops where people can't hit you, it's a joy to play), Panther is great with RPGs, missiles, anything with a short burst and long reload, as you can pop the Stasis barrier, shoot, then retreat safely while you reload. I have a Missile Rack 8 and Missile Rack 12 on my Panther and it's damage output is BONKERS, currently about 52000 dmg for a burst.

Arachnos is a slow, but very stable platform and the turret can stop people getting close. It's very good with sniper weapons or mortars. 

Ares is a good tank, once you get it up to the 50-60K HP level. I use statis beams on mine, but I've seen people doing very well with the Arc Torrents as it has the HP to get right up in people's faces and stay there.

As regards the newer Mechs or Weapons, they do appear first via Crate Rush events with tokens and special deals. However, after some time all content arrives in crates with A-coins, special in-game events, etc. In addition to that, at the moment our team is actively reworking the whole system of acquiring the content so hunting for your favourite weapon in the future will become much more convenient.
