It used to be possible. But with the new update you won't get the second copy of a mech when you max it out. Instead, the mech's energy goes even higher. 

During the Beta testing the reward for leveling a mech to rank 6 was unlocking a second copy.  This was stopped as it prevents a variety of playstyles.  It is no longer obtainable and in a future update will be taken away.

It was substitued with having a large stats boost during rank 6 and rank 6 level 7.
