Wait I'm actually enjoying mech arena? But others still aren't so...
I'd like to say first that I never thought I'd be making this thread. But yeah, here I am making it.
It could change especially because I'm not in season division 1 yet I'm in season division 4 and that's league division 1 but I'm not sure which factors into matchmaking or if it's both or how much. But it used to be I couldn't play this for any extended period of time without getting tons of losses that felt totally scripted making me irrationally angry.
Somehow recently that's not been the case. No instead I'm actually having fun. This has manifested in the past couple of days. It probably helps to have some builds that are somehow still crazy strong. Given that's with a newer, recently buffed weapon. And I'll probably acquire more META weapons or stuff that's more my style that's also fairly strong. Or discover more secret broken combos.
For reference this is my hangar and each of the builds in it.
With this hangar on my veteran account everything can contribute. The only problem is some things contribute much more than others. I hope that changes as I upgrade and modernize my hangar more.
I imagine neymar jr and mvp neymar jr pilots and mods on rank 3 and above mechs all help. That actually makes it a bit less fun cause it feels unfair to have these things that new players can't get. And my MVP stalker with savants.
However overall with matches it feels like I have to earn them and my losses feel earned. It's something that I haven't felt was true for years. There was a bit after I picked up mech arena again where it felt like using the savants and disc launchers was unfair against my opponents but my opponents have gotten harder so it feels less that way but still kind of unfair because between these 2 weapons it feels like I can do almost anything. Maybe I toss on strike rocket next and guided weapons could carry me? Oh god how fun would that be to play against? Yeah it's maybe not fair to my opponents. Guided weapons seem exceptionally flexible at least with no or minimal mods.
I think part of it too is early on in the gear hub at least you can get lots of great weapons for credits and I like this. There was one point where all the legendary 6 energy weapons (which is all the good ones) or most of them that costed a-coins. I like this because even if good weapons become more premium down the line it's a lot easier to earn those.
Still other people are not having the fun I am. Other people testify they are still experiencing matchmaking issues. I am curious how people are experiencing these, and what sort of issues they're experiencing. I imagine if we share our experiences and our hangar configurations we can figure this out and more people can enjoy mech arena.
I think mech arena could still improve too. First of all I'd start with removing gambling from the game at least with anything you can purchase with real money. Even if there's no way to get any money out of it this sort of thing is proven to create problem gamblers. I think there's going to be a cultural zeitgeist against lootboxes/ gambling like mechanics in video games soon, especially those geared towards children. It could be good for mech arena ahead of it. It's not just a good business decision either like I already explained these mechanics cause problem gambling later in life and it's been proven. I'll make another thread to talk more about this but just know that. And you can look this up for yourself too. Removing gambling adjacent mechanics is the right thing to do. And of course if you don't remove such mechanics is you'll be forced to do so or change the age rating on app stores near globally. And I know some players like the gambling. But I think the vast majority of even those players will learn to appreciate it being removed.
Another thing I'd say one place I'm not having fun is when playing against deathwalker. Please NERF this stupid stupid mech. It regenerates to full HP each time it reanimates. And the reanimation window is so long. That whole time you can't kill it or else it gets full HP again so often that means for several seconds, unless you're using guardian or outlaw or sometimes just outlaw, you cannot shoot. Not because you're reloading but actually because you'd be punished for damaging your opponent. It often results in trying to run while they chase you down with reanimation active and inevitably getting killed. That just isn't fun. If you do kill it the the thing reanimates back to where it originally activated its ability which could be far from you because yeah 15 seconds is a lot of time for it to travel far from there. Which means it can easily activate in safety, go in and get a kill and go right back to safety. Which is a lot like seeker but feels in a lot of ways worse. Deathwalker might need a couple NERFs but I would start with decreasing the ability duration or the reanimation window. 15 seconds is waaaaaaaaay too long. It should be more like 5 seconds or maybe even less. I think it maybe also shouldn't regenerate to full health. Also I learned watching a ruffles video apparently it has had the half ability cooldown bug for a while now. Can you not fix bugs quickly anymore?
Something less of an annoyance but also definitely still is one is Volti. Don't know why you ever buffed this mech's ability damage because now the volti users just love to camp behind cover and kill you without ever bringing risk to themselves. It's not even really a super duper effective strategy, but it's super cheap and annoying.
And seeker. The teleports are still a problem because they can shoot at me and damage me while they're in their teleport animation. Though they don't do extra damage in the back while teleporting anymore this has resulted in seekers being able to kill me without risk to themselves. Please remove the temporary invulnerability I really hate it.
Also let us get all implants with in game resources in the implants market. I think there's still some of the legendary ones you can't get in the shop or even in the implants market and you have to pay real money not to gamble. That just isn't fair.
At the same time please stop putting me in matches with more players on one side than another. I hate this.
I also ask please add options to get mod parts beyond weekly tasks and hangar showdown. Rework it so it's a tournament game mode and update tournament rewards. I get 400 basic mod parts and 50 elite mod parts per 5 days with weekly tasks. I can get up to 2000 basic mod parts and 500 elite mod parts per 5 days playing hangar showdown. I get why you've limited the game mode but the a-coins cost beyond 5 battles and it functions a lot like tournament but for getting other rewards like pilot marks, implant parts and mod parts. But then why not just make that part of tournament rewards instead of another separate thing that we have to play more battles for? And then remove the cost, the battle limit and rewards for the regular game mode screen so we can use it as a practice mode or play it for fun.
What's more I want FFA to be a standard game mode. Why do you have this as a tournament and I can't practice for it or play it for fun?
Finally I'd ask for a few more removals to make the experience smoother. First, golden tournament tickets. After you enter the tournament ecosystem, you can't get these free anymore. You have to buy them either with a-coins or with money directly. I'm not a fan because when you buy the a-coins you have to calculate the risk of playing more and most of the time it just isn't worth it. If you don't spend money on golden tickets outright you could end up falling behind which encourages spending money anyways. It's effectively pay to play where I thought this was supposed to be a free to play game. Same goes for hangar showdown tbqh. And the other thing I'd remove is the combat point limit. Another person made a thread about this which I commented on so I'll keep it short but it feels like I'm being forced to play on mech arena time instead of my own. And there's no way for dedicated grinders to get rewarded for grinding without gambling for rewards in tournaments which unlike hangar showdown should be a limited game mode. Unless you wanna make hangar showdown the new tournaments.
That may seem like a lot of complaints after saying I was having fun and I still am but you could definitely make it more enjoyable. And I did say a lot about what I was enjoying too.
