One of the content creators said the ongoing test is to address SP droppers, and is expected to last 4 weeks. But at the moment all it's done is made the game harder for regular players (the bots became overly strong for some time, though that has improved somewhat now). SP droppers continue to take top positions.
Human matchmaking at my SP level is unchanged. My 5k no-mods hangars often still face 6.5k-7k hangars with mods.
In short, this is yet another secretive test whose objectives and changes are completely mysterious. It boggles the mind. The common mechanics of SP dropping are so clear that it is hard to imagine why the devs are finding it so complex to fix.
The only logical conclusion one can draw is that they don't actually want to fix it. Maybe SP droppers are a good source of income, though I can't imagine how since they must be spending just 5 dollars on their dreadnaught and then raking in thousands of acoins in tournaments (meaning no need to actually spend more money to make progress).
Today in FFA I encountered an SP dropper that has 4.7k squad power. One 6-star eclipse with revokers and the other mechs all at 3 stars. Of course he has to rely mostly on that eclipse but it was powerful enough to get him nearly 30 kills and 1400 points!
And here I thought that at my SP I was free of the SP droppers menace in my own matches. Nope.
