red dots means you have artifect with better stats  to switch it it

No, the dot is there to show you have a new artifact for that specific slot. Doesn't mean it is better....if you get an attifact from let's say dungeon and it's a chestpiece...you'll notice all your champions chest pieces will have a red dot...showing that there is a new piece available whether it be better or not. Hope you receive this message in hand from good faith. I've also only been playing 1 month and I understand this part.

Well I think I found a horrible fix but it worked.  I went through all my champions and artifacts that had red dots.  Can't use the Just New filter.  Does not work on getting rid of the dots.  So bassically, see a red dot.  Click on it.  Mine went away one once they were all done.

This bug is caused by auto equipping a piece of gear before you have viewed it.  happens if you use Hell Hades raid optimiser, or the new auto equipping function too, I think.

If you still have this, best way to clear it is to open your champion roster, select the slot with the red dot.  Filter for the slot, make sure you include equipped items, and run down the list till you see the offending red dot.  Worked for me !
