Rethink CvC matchups?
Was wondering if the matchup algorithm for CvC could be revised. There are both quality of life and business issues with the current state.
First, the QoL issue using an example from the most recent CvC our clan ran. We were matched with a crew that was more than twice our level, more than four times our total clan power. That's not the first time something similar has happened.
The net result was a loss, obviously. A challenging opponent makes sense. A forlorn hope just demoralizes folks. We have people that routinely put in the bare minimum effort in order to share what milestone rewards we can attain because doing otherwise seems to be a waste of time. Some folks who would be valuable contributors choose not to participate at all. This is where the business aspect kicks in.
Instead of being motivated to compete - and maybe spending a few bucks to do so - they are recognizing the futility and lack of value in making the effort. Potentially, a fair bit of money is being left on the table.
I don't know what the criteria for matching is but I'd suggest that using overall clan power ranking points as the primary choice for matchups makes more sense than the current model. The business goal should lean toward encouraging folks rather than chasing them away from the table, in my opinion.
There are always going to be whales. That's a given. But there are a lot more minnows in the pond. Some of them could be enticed into investing a bit to be competitors if there was a reasonable hope of success and gratification.
