What was wrong?

I spent 47 minutes fighting the dragon in Godfrey's Crossing on Brutal difficulty to advance towards the Sacred Shard, which grants three stars for completing the entire level. Even though I defeated the dragon, the system only awarded me two stars for this battle. What did I do wrong?
