9 pcs Total Guard is crazy broken.  No idea if they are gonna rebalance it, but they should.  It was obviously the OP PVP set from the time it was conceived.

it's stupidly broken, and the person who thought of it and thought "yeah lez make it worki this way, it seems fair to me", clearly didn't consider that krakens were going to use this broken set along with other broken stuff like broken champs, broken relics and so on, creating untouchable teams that the normal player can't deal with in any possible way

Here's how mercurial would work if it was made by people who Actually-Know-How-This-Game-Works:

4 pcs - 1 total guard

6 pcs - 2 total guard

9 pcs - gains 1 total guard if has no buffs at start of the turn / or / gains 1 total guard when an ally dies

I get your concerns as LIVE and pvp are quite upsetting many times especially with the new broken mercurial gear But why would a company worry about making it better for f2p players by limiting paying customers. Not good business. There is much to do ig outside of LIVE arena. Only need 1 run and sometimes one win for free energy in the advanced quests. Otherthan that LIVE doesn't even need be played. 

The crazy thing about this game is that a lot of its content is a "doesn't even need to be played" content.

Live arena? "well you don't need to play it, just skip it".

Arena Platinum? "well you don't need to play it, just skip it". 

Cursed City Sintranos? "well you don't need to play it, just skip it".  

FW hard ?  "well you don't need to play it, just skip it".  

UNM chimera? "well you don't need to play it, just skip it" (btw, chimera chests are probably the worst reward ever).

These all are free content, on paper, but in reality they are not accessible for most of the free players.

This month I decided for the first time, okay let's try to win the 100 myth materials from live arena. I quite regret making that decision, because this game mode is so stupid, such bad design and also so blatantly designed to favor spenders. Every time I play LA it seems like I'm the only one playing with free champs and it seems that everyone got komidus\nais\marishka\taras\galathir\solanar\predator\krixia.

The problem is I'm quite invested with this game right now, but I don't know if I will stay this way much longer. And if you want to fully experience the game, then you need FW hard, you need remnants and basalts from Sintranos and you need those 100 myth from live arena (which of course, will give me another aspect of siroth). But this will probably be my first and last attempt to get myth material from live arena, it has made me so angry and it made me Alt+f4 the game several times. They should put a clear warning before entering LA: "warning, this content is meant for spenders, play at your own risk".

Mercurial needs a nerf for sure.  9 piece is busted in regaining stacks and protecting all other buffs.  Its ridiculous and you get so much from Forest its fairly easy to get decent builds.

As to the rest, spenders will always have an advantage in gacha games, just how it is.  That said I have a F2P account that completes every area including getting the mythical mats in LA.  It is an old account so gear is good but its all possible still, just takes longer.  Not that I don't do my fair share of raging in LA. 

I think you're just luckier than me. My account is not crap, but I'm still lacking many champs that are necessary to be competitiv, and the account growth in this game is absurdly slow. I opened 6 or 7 sacred shards with the 2 x we had this weekend, and all I got was an ukko dupe. I started this account when we had the iron brago fusion, you see my account isn't a beginner account and I'm still lacking many necessary champs

There is no question that Live Arena can be a Royal PITA, but I am pushing 20K in G4 and I use mostly fusions, event toons & reward legos with a few others thrown in.  You can absolutely fight & win with accesible toons.

Here are my go-to toons:

Marius (Always my first pick if I have the choice) 

Padraig (Got him from the Hero's Path)

Arbais (But my Arbiter is actually faster and could easily be used instead)

Shazar (I like Gnishak better as a Bomber, but Shazar has that sweet speed aura)

Fabian

Gnishak (I go double bomb squad against Kommidus, Nais, Galathir, Theodosia....because well built 5/6 star awakened Mythical Tanks can't always be killed by one bomber alone)  

Kharnage

Embrys

Occasionally WuKong or Pythion 

Depending on circumstances, I do occassionally use Nick/Noelle, both of whom were avaialble last Christmas.

I haven't built Hilvi yet, but whenever I get around to it, I will then have Tormin/Hilvi (AKA GirlTormin) as an option.  They were also both avaialable through in-game events.  Everyone and their brothers, sisters & cousins has Hilvi built in 9 pcs Mercurial, so I am sure I won't do that.

Armanz is no longer what he was 2 yrs ago, but he is still very much Meta.

Freyja was avaialble from a DoF, and if she is built well, she can be used like a Siphi.

 I hate the new merc set... ugh. Even when I can win it takes forever...

But that's cuz im frigging lazy and not using any.

I'm probably 12 months behind in building/upgrading (but I probably have the gear, relic mats, basalt etc) to get back to fringe competitor level lol.  I just need to equip the gear.  The new set is very f2p friendly (not new players), as the grim forest is beyond easy (intentionally of course).  

we have similar champs. My picks in priority  order are fabian - embrys - karnage - hilvi - noelle - siegfrund - shazar - marius - leonardo, and occasionally kalvalax but with total guard he's going to be put in the vault quite soon. 

These are not bad champs, but still they're utterly insufficient when facing teams with galathir - krixia - nais- komidus - predator - soalanr - marishka, which is 90% of my LA matchmaking. The problem IS the matchmaking. The game wants me to believe that in that specific moment, I'm the one and only dude playing LA with mostly free champs Vs all other players who ALWAYS have at least 2 of the aforementioned champs.

The Matchmaking is shi* or it is intentionally scripted to favor spenders.

I feel like it should be pointed out that by going for the mythic materials you're doing a lot more than just 5 wins per day and so you're getting matched against other people who are also doing way more than the 5 wins/day, very very few of whom are f2p. 

That said, I 100% agree that matchmaking is awful and needs improvement.

Ive had decent luck but honestly my core champs for LA are ones that were guranteed.  Fabian / Marius / Hilvi / Karnage / Embrys all really good options.  

All terrible things IMO.  Merc is only got worse too.  Real hope they nerf it in some way. 

I keep pushing for improvements. 

Live arena experience:  3 defeat vs players with predator/nell/nais/theodosia/marishka, one win vs a bot;  3 defeat vs players with predator/nell/nais/theodosia/marishka , one win vs a bot . Repeat.

Can I have fair matchmaking plsssssss ?

Sorry, don't think you are a good example for live not being fair.   Quite the opposite, you are proving that the 1320 is "easily" obtainable for any late game account. 

The bots guarantee (unless u get Ratted) that you can't lose points.  

that's the point exactly, my roster is not bad. If it was bad, I would have no reason to expect I could achieve more wins. Even if my roster is not bad (one might even say it's "good" considering that I'm no kraken), I can't deal with the opponents because the game constantly puts me against players that have AT LEAST 2 of the following: nais - krixia - marishka - solanar - predator - even more predator - galathir - nell - gizmak - 9 pcs mercurial gharol. These are krakens and only other krakens can face them. The matchmaking either is total shi* or is working perfectly as intended, to favor spenders.  Just think about LA in 2-3 months: 9 pcs mercurial everywhere, and kraken teams that were already untouchable without mercurial, will become simply impossible to deal with. 

This is the first time I'm pushing live arena, and it will probably be the last one. Yes, it's probably achievable, but I'm spending from 10 to 40 gems per day because it's impossible to get the minimum daily points required to hit 1320 by just using the free 10 LA fights the game grants.

Bots are a really stupid idea and waste my time. Standing there waiting for a bot to pick udk, iron brago and magnarr for its team. Just add a feature that after 3 defeat will add back 9 points.

Today was the first day in several days of playing LA, that I got these many wins in a row.

And not because the opponents were weak, I struggled to get these wins, but the matchmaking was kinda fair.

I lost one match, just because the opponent had komids and predator, thus confirming the kraken pair rule, aka, if you have a normal account like me, you have no chance of winning when the game puts you against players that have at least 2 of the following, krixia, predator, galathir, komidus, nais, solanar,gizmak, nell, marishka and other game breaking champs
