Came up with this concept this morning, Im sure it's not "new" per se but wanted to drop it here:

"Alignment" - each champion on a player's account can have a range of different alignments within their respective faction. Each alignment comes with a global boost to stats or similar advantage, and can be tied back to the lore surrounding champions and factions, which further enhances the relevance of that aspect of the game to all players.

Example: 

Champion: Georgid the Breaker

Faction: Knights Revenant

Alignment: Cult of K'leth

Bonuses: Champions aligned to the Cult of Kleth receive +5% HP and +15% CDMG

This could allow for deeper customization and configuration of rosters across game modes, drive interest within the player-base for lore-centric releases, changes and updates.

There is a lot to unpack here and I'm sure the game designers are way out ahead of me on this, but my clan-mates loved the idea and we had a good brainstorming session in the in-game chat about it.
