🚜🕳️ Transforming the Crane Yard and other X-Tek facilities into Arenas wasn’t a seamless process. An incident was narrowly avoided when an employee mistakenly turned up for work during a Mech battle. Bleary-eyed from his early commute, the worker managed to wander onto the fringes of the zone and fire up his telehandler just as a Killshot zipped past. Fortunately, the Pilot noticed and quickly issued a ceasefire until the person could be escorted to safety. So far, no more incidents have been reported, although the worker is now known as Killshot Stepan.

More fencing, signage and security has long-since been installed around the Crane Yard to prevent the battle zone and the industrial hub from crossing over further. During these renovations, X-Tek workers also built themselves a secret, and secure, observation deck. Tucked out of sight, they have an uninterrupted view of the battlefield. Ever since it was built, it’s been a Friday tradition to order pizza, unwind from a long week and watch Mech mayhem unfold.

Zoryan Yasnomyr, X-Tek’s previous owner, has no regrets about selling the facilities to his employees and to the Mech Arena League. He still supports it from a distance, but is proud that the foundation he built has been strong enough to weather such change. The employees have fully embraced the influence of the MAL. They’ve created an internal training scheme, wherein they help promising young employees to explore their potential within Mech engineering and Pilot jobs. Rather than restrict the Crane Yard, it’s opened countless doors.

The Crane Yard is a favorite of many Pilots, but its biggest fan is Maverick. He believes the Arena is lucky. Almost all of his career highlights have happened there. There was the time that his team were flagging behind in battle. Despite his damaged Mech, Maverick snuck through one of the corridors behind the enemies, deployed Panther’s Shield and went on a killing spree. The other team were left smoldering on the floor. Maverick knows the Crane Yard like the back of his hand and others know not to underestimate him while fighting there.
