Tournaments

So now you HAVE to be a whale to win tournaments??

I liked it better before this new "improvement".

I like new tournaments after 3 days of it..

Reasons are:

1) i get more rewards

2) i nearly dont see bots just real players

3) matchmaking despite being a bit harsh, enemies are strong, but it is reasonably fairer, there are less spikes of power in both teams, now its a bit more equal

4) the inventory is actually useful now you dont attempt to reduce is but the opposite

could you maybe provide your arena ID and the reasons why you dont like it? If you have nothing to hide of course.

It may depend partly on what tournament rank you are starting in. A lot of whales started in master and grandmaster ranks, and lower SP players that have the misfortune of being in the same ranks will face them. I have a 5k hangar and started at expert rank and so far have had a decent experience. More wins than losses. I do face much higher SP opponents sometimes but luckily not as much as others.

Hopefully over time everyone's ranks will adjust and we'll all face better matched opponents.

Overall I like this new tournament model a whole lot more than before. You can at least get some rewards without grinding and without losing out on real life. It's possible that the new system encourages maxing out your hangar to be able to win grandmaster titles, and honestly that's okay. That's good game progression, but now (unlike before) not at the cost of some rewards for "lesser" players.

And like I said the hope is that this won't cause a long term impact since everyone will settle into ranks best suited for them.

Personally I am blown away by the new tournament mode, albeit only having played one day, only human players in all 8 games, very diverse and fun, and what the game is meant to be - not to mention the potential to make a decent amount of acoins each day, even if you win just half of the games. My only question is, why has it taken so long! :)

day 4 i'm still happy.. even I advanced to expert 1, i was able to hold on to it.. and even win a golden MVP.. so it must be possible to play at that level.. I feel a bit like a dwarf there, but same time it feels cool and very competitive and rewarding..

I hope this will stay this way.. because now I actually want to get stronger mechs or weapons.. previously there was no much point of doing it.

G'day.

Have given it a fair go and I get why the change was made but from my POV, am not a fan of this new Tournament mode.

FFA, I try to avoid here and in other games because I have never liked this battle mode.

CP, is OK.

DM, is my preferred mode.

Reducing to a max. of eight battles per Tournament then we are timed out. Nah, not a fan especially when after 20 battles have not played one DM. Plus, seems to be the same handful of maps for both FFA and CP modes.

Irrespective of better rewards, this change needs to be modified to allow:-

a) choice of battle mode

b) no battle or time limitations

Used to enjoy playing Tournaments, sadly, not any more.

A-1) Initially I thought it was stupid too.. and I felt frustrated too. I had separate hangars for FFA and Deathmatch, because FFA is mostly close combat without much space for non-legendary guided weapons. Control points are usually larger maps with even more space for guided and mortars comparing to Deathmatch..

So I get what you are saying perfectly..

This might be painful especially for people who favor close combat or opposingly Guided long range weapons.. If your hangar is mostly snipers and guided, you get into FFA and then you would be demolished by those who favor close comabat & mid range, and if your hangar is close combat you would not even reach your enemy in large Deathmatch & CP maps. This forces people to have some sort of universal mid range hangars.

A-2) I also thought that it's weird that there are not 9 matches to make it 3 of each map, but 8.. which makes me believe there is no pattern of how many of each map can happen..

I would design the maps to appear equaly, maybe just randomly, so you can't adjust your hangar before playing. Then 9th time would be predictable which map it would be and could be cheated by chosing hangar accordingly.

B) No idea what you mean, realistically this is a bad idea, people will be hiding under the rock waiting for other to come and others will do the same, time encourages people to fight and not hide from battle. I'm for sure against removing the time limitations. If anything it could be extended by a minute for deathmatch instead of having 2 rounds.

But in general I don't really care about time, it never felt much out of order.. very very very rarely.

Now my own view is, I'm currently happy.. I don't need to have 2 separate hangars for Tournament, I used to have close-combat and normal, now I only have 1 universal hangar and it works well for me, I don't use guided and I have 2 snipers which are quite capable in close combat too. I must mention that savants and geminis are working for people perfectly fine for any of the game modes, it's only non-legendary guided weapons are a bit useless if you appear in FFA.

Would I have 2-3 separate hangars if maps choice was controllable? Yes of course and it would be a pain for me if I was not given a separate slot for it like in Hangar Showdown.

for me Control Point maps add fun to it too.. I don't know why it was previously not in the tournaments..

I have:

1 hangar for the tournaments (strongest power and balanced for all 3 map types)

1 hangar for normal games (strongest weapons for mech development missions)

1 hangar for daily specaialities spree (when you need to kill with specific weapons)

There is just no space for 2 more hangars if Tournament maps were predictable. It would be a paint to change things every day in multiple hangars.

I earn more resources than I did before because you don't have to be in the top 6 of a bracket to earn an amount of a-coins. But it seems aside from a 1 time reward, crate rewards are entirely gone. So you can't earn blueprints that way. Though I hardly earned blueprints through tournament anyways. But that could be upsetting for people who often ended up placing high in gm bracket.

Speaking of blueprints we need them to be general purpose and not for individual mechs and weapons. Along with tournaments this should have been one of the first changes they ever made to MA.

I like the new tournament. It is much better and feels less like I'm trying to grind out points for a little reward.

The diverse, random game mode is good. This helps keep people from hyper-specializing their hanger. I personally do not specialize at all. I run what I've got with the challenge of making it work.

The rewards are much better.
