What does the Redeemer actually do?

Not sure if they broke the Redeemer with these silly ploys to balance the game, but I noticed a dramatic change in it. In the past, right before getting attacked, I could hit Backtrack and basicly run away with no damage. Now if I try to do that, they can still damage and kill me during the action. What gives? Mine is 3 star 7/7.

In the past, right before getting attacked, I could hit Backtrack and basicly run away with no damage. Now if I try to do that, they can still damage and kill me during the action. What gives? In the past, right before getting attacked, I could hit Backtrack and basicly run away with no damage. Now if I try to do that, they can still damage and kill me during the action. What gives?
