I've played this games for a little over 2 weeks now but I wanted to ask is it a waste of time to even bother doing Leaderboard stuff? Because currently I'm looking at the top 2 seemingly will never get off........

i strongly agree. 6 in the morning somebody who was not even in top10 will overtake you by 5k while you are sleeping.
If you have money you can do it, but like above i agree this will cost you a lot more than the prize for it. Its only worth it if you are planning to do upgrades anyway, then its like getting freebies.
In any case wait until last moment to see if there is any point.. maybe you can get there naturally, depends on your playstyle. In last hours top5 may flactuate by 10k
