a new low with the guided specialization spree?

In the ongoing guided specialization spree, if you don't spend real money, you won't get all event tokens. Luckily for me, I'm not too invested in the corresponding ECR for Vox (not enough time to spend on the game these days), but still it makes me sad.

Best of luck to all of you who are trying to get Vox through these events.

Totally agree!!!  This is terrible!!!

Seriously, I think this is the second time in the last couple of months that they've done this kind of thing where you will only be able to complete something by spending money.  I get it for certain things (a specific weapon specialization spree or something), but this one is an opportunity to get a pilot by doing a crap ton of things over the course of weeks.  Basically its geared towards the dedicated player who is willing to grind their way to happiness.  But now they are going to require us to spend money.

For those not paying attention, the guided specialization spree requires 100 point to be earned and has items totaling up to 120 points.  This is commonly done so that one of those items (worth 20 points) is a purchase option (make an in game purchase or something similar).  The problem this time is that while that "in game purchase" is one of the 20 point options, the other big option is to "win 10 battles with either Gemini 10 or Savant 10" (also worth 20 points). Resulting in 80 points that can be gained by free to play players and a remaining 20 points still needed but REQUIRING spending REAL MONEY to get from the two options.

Its been pretty out there that money grabs have been picking up steam with this game.  But this one really takes the cake.  I'm so disappointed that I really don't know what else to say.

i think the whole quest should change if it detects that the players doesn't have these weapons, thus changing the quest to something else to make it easier for the players.

Thanks, CrystalDrew.

By the way, while my original post was about the paid objectives, I thought I'd point out another problem with the same event, in my opinion at least. That's the "upgrade the rank of a guided weapon" objective. There's a combination of factors that makes it quite irksome:

  1. Rank updates cost precious acoins.
  2. This event is very early in the overall Vox ECR timeline.

Point 1 in my mind is bad enough. Point 2 makes it much worse. If a player invests in the rank update, and in later events is unable to secure enough event tokens to guarantee a Vox win, then that rank update and corresponding acoins are wasted (given the ECR objective).

Please don't make event objectives so expensive (either on the real or virtual pocket).

Thanks tar.

I wouldn't have know if you wouldn't have said something.  Wish someone from MA would have posted the news in the "news and announcements" section on the forums, but that would probably make too much sense.  Why make certain everyone knows when you can be lazy and only tell those on Discord.  😔

Again, thank you tar!

We've mentioned it in the comment section of the original post on all the social media. Here is a Facebook post as an example.

The original problem is resolved but I do want to call out my second feedback , i.e. requiring rank upgrades of weapons. Both guided events (part 1 and 2) needed rank upgrades to be completed. One was bad enough (see my message above), but two objectives requiring rank upgrades reduces the value of the Vox goal. If I'm going to spend lots of acoins I want to make sure the numbers add up and guarantee a Vox win with a reasonable return on my acoins investment.

These events don't guarantee it, because more events will come later and I may not be able to procure all needed tokens.

So it's a gamble, and that's rough especially on players that have worked hard for those acoins. Can we please go back to more reasonable objectives? They don't have to be easy, but they shouldn't be a gamble either.

Alternatively, there's a compromise - a rank up objective can be in the last event of an ECR allowing players to decide whether it is worth it for them or not, without the decision itself being a gamble.

I'm hesitant to respond here, I don't really want to take away from Tar's point, but I have to say that its nuts to require me to read through comments to get the news anouncements.  I may scroll through the comments occasionally, but I shouldn't be required to in order to get important information about the game.

To be honest, this was a great missed opportunity for you on the PR side.  A whole new post on all the social media should have been made: "We've heard your feedback and have made a change (because you asked for it)!!!"  Instead you've hidden it inside comment sections that people have to go out of their way to look through.  Big miss.

Also, I do agree with Tar that objectives can be challenging, but they shouldn't be super hard either.  You are doing this to give away a free pilot as long as you play A LOT of the game.  If your objective is to encourage people to play the game, then just keep making the endurance oriented objectives.  Requireing players to kill 50 mechs, cool.  Requireing players to spend A-Coins to upgrade items they weren't going to upgrade otherwise, NOT cool.  Keep in mind your target audience!!  With a free pilot, its not the big spenders or end game players but the early and mid game players.  Skill levels are low and A-Coins are also low.
