Speculation and Complaining about Features not even Introduced yet

So, I've seen the initial info on Champions and seen the discussions people have had on them so far and all I can say is I'm not really hyped.  Players have been complaining about the imbalance of the game, the death of beacons (previously one of the major end game things) and how do the devs respond?  Loot boxes!

On the positive side, it sounds like they'll be adding more stuff for players to do without having to spend and without having to risk losing years of building for a single moment of fun.

On the negative side, it also sounds like a mechanic designed to get people to gamble huge amounts of money in order to get the best quality of the most useful types of champions.

What I foresee happening is the biggest spenders will rather promptly have the best stuff, making their advantage even larger.  The rest will have to rely on luck to get something useful.  If defense/beacon defense champs are a common enough drop, it may help alleviate the current issue with a handful of giant hammers being able to smash virtually anything for PvP.  If they aren't a common enough drop or if they don't make a big enough difference, then it'll just make the already strong even more unstoppable while the rest just have a new toy to play with, but which is ultimately not that helpful.

It's an utterly greed driven game, what do you expect.

The dev's don't sit down and discuss how they could make interesting and fun content that would increase the longevity of the game.

They take for granted that they will have a significant player base based on the size and power of the marketing budget. The games don't need to be good or great, just OK.

Their objective for new content is how to add things that will exploit human nature to make the fastest buck in the shortest time. And they believe no matter how cynical and exploitative the updates, players will keep playing because of the investment in time and effort and sometimes money, that they have already put in.

If the above gets me banned, sorry for stating the truth.

The above isn't just Plarium it's most MMO developers. Most people I started Stormfall with have now reverted back to single player games which have literally hundreds of times more content at a fraction of the price. The MMO industry is eating itself with it's own greed, only when they have completely ruined it and the effects are impacting their bottom lines will it cycle change.

I could mention a handful mmo's from the top of my head that does quite well without this greed and goal of uber coining though. Spending in mmo's is not really a big deal if what you spend on doesn't give a "pay 2 win" aspect. Skins, mounts, xp boosters, costumes, whatever, things like that. I think this whole "pay to win" business mode is more visible in games you can just play right in your browser, and of course mobile games and such.

More traditional theme park/sandbox PC mmo's have less focus on pay 2 win, but more focus on things mentioned above.
