Questions about BG

Hello, I have a few questions concerning battlegrounds :

Numero 1.   Is it possible to play without BG ? It looks like BG level 100+ get you more units than you lose. (for exemple, for a level 120 BG : spending 100 dragons, you get 120 dragons in reward). In this case, it would be so easy to get a very huge army that it would be so stupid to play without BGs.

Numero 2.   How to upgrade the low level Battlegrounds ? My highest battleground is level 25 but I am affraid to level it up because my lowest level battleground is level 1... Why is my lowest level BG level 1 ? How can I upgrade it ? Does it matter if I don't play everyday ? I am affraid that in case I leave the game for a few days, my BGs decrease to level 1. Please, give me a link if there is a guide anywhere to learn to manage and to grow the low level BGs.

Numero 3.   Why is Plarium so rude, so uncivilized ? Why don't you teach us to manage the BGs ??

Numero 4.   I am level 68, and I still don't know if I prefere BattleGrounding or PVPing. Please, give me some hints. Is it a good idea to get my BGs up to the level 40 ? Am I supposed to wait until I get some lost art ? I am looking for advice on spending my medals.
NB : I am close to get the pathfinders.

Numero 5.   Is it a good idea, is it wise to play fully defensive ? My league is a very defensive league and I suppose it would be a good choice to be defensive myself, but... is it truelly a good idea ?

Hi !

No1: Everybody plays what he wish but BG's are part of the game - if u'll get more experience on BG's playing u'll see sometimes after u'll lost almost all the army in a fight with BG's u can recover faster or u can get great numbers of troops.

No2: BG's are upgrading after u kill the biggest lvl of them but the small lvl will alwaus come - so, u don't have to kill always just the biggest lvl/

No3: Pls read the posts on this forum about BG's or subscribe to Facebbok pages about BG's, there are some videos on youtube  too - you will find there all the info u need to know and after these u can prepare your strategy for them.

No4: You must upgrade BG's in accordance with Lost Arts lvls of the troops - first try to upgrade lost arts then do your BG's - if the lvl of lost arts of some units are higher, in BG's those units will be stronger and you'll lost fewer of them.

No5: At this time of the game there are many strong offensive players with high lvls which are hunting only for PVP, only for attacking beacons or fortresses and to get medals for their leagues - my oppinion is u can't play only deffensive - one say you'll need offence too - till u'll get a bigger lvl and u'll have all lost arts discovered try to have a balance of your troops and after this you can choose a strategy according to your league strategy too.

Hope my advices will help u - best regards and enjoy the game!

Bogdan

Very interesting questions my My Lady.

It seems that you need to undergo a tedious BG Education, then a thorough BG re-education( which will be self taught).

Numero 1. Is it possible to play without BG ? It looks like BG level 100+ get you more units than you lose. (for exemple, for a level 120 BG : spending 100 dragons, you get 120 dragons in reward). In this case, it would be so easy to get a very huge army that it would be so stupid to play without BGs

Yes, its possible to play without BG. I know that you might be having a funny idea that BG system will grow your army. The saga BG( ones with stories can, but the basic O, D BG will eat your army if you're not careful. Many players, including me, play little BG, or no BG. In server 1 my BG are so low that its embarrassing to even mention that I am still hitting level 74 BG after nearly 3 years of playing. But because I play carefully I still have my army standing, even most of the EG and EG. BG don't give you bigger army, they give you better army.

Numero 2. How to upgrade the low level Battlegrounds ?

To upgrade you rBG you have to keep fighting higher BG. at higher levels you will still receive low level BG. My highest BG is level 74 in S1, and I still get level 1-11 BGs.

Why is my lowest level BG level 1 ?

The eagle nest use a random system when searching for new BG. Any BG within the radius of that is encountered first will be included in your BGs. The system is completely random. However the higher is your quest BG(highest BG) the more likely are you to find more higher level BG as oppopsed to lower level. Another thing, if you complete 3 BG, the EN will find for you 1 high BG, 1 small, 1 high. These process is random. So be careful of completing certain low BG, because over time this will push your BG to even higher BGs.

Why is Plarium so rude, so uncivilized ? Why don't you teach us to manage the BGs ??

Plarium want players to tinker with their game, and find tricks to beat the game. Unfortunately we have players who do anything to squander innovation or players that come up with ideas that they don't affiliate to. These players make it hard for players to learn BGs, or share their ideas about BG. One such players are those found in KoKs.

Is all about finding out what you like. On S1, I like to hit stuff, and gathering intelligence is what thrills me eve more. So having the best army to cause pain, while not giving too much attention to self is the best way of playing the game there. For that I must be able to have a certain amount of army when I want it. That is why I play low level BG( S1). With low level BG, I can manipulate them into giving me 1000 necros when I feel like killing a level 7 fort with 1 000 necros. I can predict when I am about to get dragons/wyverns so schedule BG play when there is PvP. It also means that I never lose my army because I can always meet my bank.( my overall army is bigger that the highest BG bank, 4-6 times).

So find out what you like to do, and stick to it. ( take tests, you can find one in tavern).

Numero 5. Is it a good idea, is it wise to play fully defensive ? My league is a very defensive league and I suppose it would be a good choice to be defensive myself, but... is it truelly a good idea ?

Defensive is redundant if your league is full of loners. Close knit defensive league, like poison are good. So do your league have and active, 24hrs ACTIVE, chat. Have your league mastered the art of forming WoD(wall of defense). Is your marshal active in chat (if not then he have trust issues and defending won't work with a leader like that). Do your league have FB, Skype and Teamspeak or other group chats.

Defending is good if there is active communication, and is done as a group.

Hello Ladies and Lords,

Thanks for your answers. But I am pretty sure there are some mistakes in your answers.

Oracle said:

What do you mean a "better" army ? More demons instead of golems ? More barbarians instead of nomads ?

Anyway, I believe it's false, according to this : http://wiki.plarium.com/index.php?title=Battlegrounds%3A_Tips#

(picture from the plarium's wiki)

In my opinion, doing level 160 BGs, will get you 160% resources in reward (so it actually give you a bigger army). Here is a picture :

So my question is : what's the point ? Do we have to level up the BGs as fast as possible (getting regularly some reward to keep climbing) ?

In my opinion (based on my watching of Vladimir's youtube videos), here is the strategy :

 - (maxing lost arts & maxing units + training a lot of "cheap" units like archers, nomads, golems and griffins)

 - getting the "rune BG" to 1% (to fill the wallet)

 - destroying the second best BG until you get a reward

 - finishing the rune BG

 - keep doing this until you reach super high level BGs

 - (+ cleaning the low level BGs, sometimes, so high level BGs can spawn [do this only while your wallet is empty] )

What do you think about it ? I saw some 40 level guys getting 2k+ points in the BGs (while my maximum is around 500 points) and I guess they are following this strategy. What do you think about this strategy ?

In my opinion, this is not a good idea :

No4. Keep your BG levels low so you can convert troops in them. Lvl 30 will be fine.

Thanks for helping me, again. Your help, truelly, was usefull even if there were some mistakes.

PS : Here is a very nice battleground calculator : http://vp.place-24.ru/en/def.php (copy paste the link)

Have fun :)

Firstly. The wiki link and the method are VERY VERY old.

BG give you a better army in a sense that you convert low troop units into high resource units. They don't in any way give you more units power. They are resource in resource out.

You turn 150 pikes which have a resource value of 49 500(plus 10% tax) into high resource units, like say 6 warloack resource value which will have a resource value of 51 631.8.

As you can see

150 pikes have a power base of 6000, while the pay out, which is a good pay out, have base power of 4320. These is what I meant. You overal army becomes better in a sense you gain resource heavy units. Not in the sense that you use 100 dragon and gain 160 dragon. In fact if you use resource heavy units, like dragons to play BG, you're more likely to be captured in a loop. e,g you lose your army then build to gain in back only to lose it the army you build in the process, until the process reach what other players call ''BG bug'' when these happen you will lose all your army as BG tax is payed.

But no matter you're on the right track. Russian intel on BG is a good way to go. Avoid their disregards for BG bank and you'll be fine. Their methods are among the best in the game, and I too am a scholar.

what's the point ? Do we have to level up the BGs as fast as possible (getting regularly some reward to keep climbing)

With your question. I can honestly say it depend. If you are capable of building your army at the rate that match your banking then its fine. e.g when you can coin/boost your units production to match your BG play.

for example less say you can produce 150 units per day, with resource value of 1 000. These means that you can play BG at a rate that is equal to your overal BG units+150 units per day. These will determine how fast you can level up your BG.

If you for example complete a BG that you have high bank compared to all your units+production, you're likely to lose all your units.

To explain it in other terms.

lets say BG have successive increment in power of 150. so if level 1 BG needs to be completed with units having power of 150, level 2 will need 300. level 3 450 ect.

If you want to increase your BG level 1 level per day then you must be able to produce units that have 150 power per day. Otherwise you will be caught up in tax and lose your army.

(didn't edit, gave away too much intel)

Hello Lord Oracle,

Thanks again for your answer.

You turn 150 pikes which have a resource value of 49 500(plus 10% tax) into high resource units, like say 6 warloack resource value which will have a resource value of 51 631.8.

 - What do you mean "10% tax" ?

 - How do you know there is any tax, do you get a source ?

 - Is the tax always 10% ?

I am sorry asking you so much questions but... plarium seriously neglects giving us every tool to play this game...

In my opinion, even with a 10% tax, BGs could be worthy : I spend 100 dragons, I get a reward of 100*1.6 = 160 dragons. Plus I get a tax of 10% * 160 = 16 dragons.

In this case, "BG bug" will not be a problem : they will destroy my army at once (with no reward), but the rewards I have previously accumulated will be far better.

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+60 dragons)   (tax = 16)

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+120)   (tax = 32)

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+180)   (tax = 48)

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+240)   (tax = 64)

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+300)   (tax = 80)

I send 100 dragons, I get 160 in reward. (+360)   (tax = 96)

I send 100 dragons, I get 0 in reward #BGbug. (360-100 = +260 ; we have a total of +260 dragons)   (tax = 12)

It looks worthy, doesn't it ?

I doubt "Vladimir" can produce such an amount of units every day to defeat 160 level BGs.

Plarium created 160 level BGs. So, there is probably a reason why they did that. Reading your answers, it looks like 160 level BGs are useless.

I really doubt the only utility of BGs is to transform cheap units into expensive units...

Expensive units use to be weaker than cheap units.

And cheap units use to be longer to produce...

It would be a really bad idea to produce cheap units (which are strong and long to produce) to convert them into expensive units (weak and fast to produce).

Plarium's wiki explain that  the best units for BGs are the expensive one, as you can read there : https://plarium.com/en/strategy-games/stormfall-age-of-war/pro-players/pvp-units/

Units for PvP need to be cheap and effective while Units for the BGs need to be expensive because we need to feed the BGs with Resources.

(I know I said the best units for BGs are archer, nomads, golems and griffin but... I said this because I guess it's the best way to reach high level BGs, and it's the units Vladimir is using in his videos)

I am pretty sure you are wrong, lord Oracle. Thanks anyway for trying.

PS : Please, give me a link concerning "BG bug" if you get any. I would be very happy to learn what it is precisely.

As I have already exhausted all issues regarding tax. Read BG tax debate.

Again the wiki is very very old, So old that is best to not trust it at all.

I already explained many things to you, You are very smart and have a great longing to know( even contacting guys like Vladimir.

My advice to you is to first understand the basics of English way of playing BG, before you do BG like the Russians, I don't personally know vladimir but know that the Russian way of playing BG is very different to how players play BG here.

My advice is for you to use the forum search engine and read comments, and debates on these issue. Once you understand how the bank work. you must then start your own spreadsheet. Tracking your BG will reveal many things about BG, including the existence of tax, and make it easy to predict BG.

Once you reach level 51 especially 100, then recant all your BG knowledge and start studying Russian way of doing BG.

It might seem like simple way of doing BG. But is very complex. I made many calculation and predicted which BG will pay and what units I must use. How much Exp I will gain. I din't engage any BG before then. My bank was settled with tax covered, in that short.

If your highest bg is level 25 then keep hitting this level using inexpensive infantry until you hit the jackpot - which according to PLAYTAMIN should be around 154 Warlocks (or 198 demons from green bg). Just build infantry every day and maybe a few cavalry
It should only need 36000 offense or defense to complete each level 25 bg, but you may need to complete 6 or more before getting the big payout, but you will get mini payouts each time. You might even get lucky and get a big haul of Dragons, Wyverns or Griffins instead of Warlocks

It you waste units hitting lower levels you will get unwanted small payouts, which makes it harder to get the large payouts from higher levels

If you climb too high too quickly you might lose far too many expensive units before you get any decent payouts.
You will not be capable of hitting high level bg for a long time, unless you are prepared to spend thousands of sapphires reviving your lost units (with no guarantee that you will ever make any profit)
Only big coiners can hope to hit the highest levels

Level 24 BG sent One of every unit plus extra infantry - https://prnt.sc/goiok9

1. Yes, but bgs help with certain things.  They let you convert junk troops like infantry into good troops.  They get you champion items.  They also let you load troops then buy them back with saphs to grow your army cheaper than directly buying units.

2. I'd hit top level until you get above level 61, as this is where you start getting class 4 champion items.  You get an even spread of bgs across your range.

3.  Plarium wants players to work on figuring out how to do bgs on their own.  Think of it like a separate minigame within the main game (or something).

4. PVP is what the game is all about.  BGs are just a way to change troop types around and get champion items.  Join a good league, they will help you learn how to do pvp well.

5. Not really, unless you're willing to spend the money to buy at least 500mil defense you're likely to get crushed by some big coiner with a ton of offense (and even at 500m there are some big league hammers that can still crush you).
