Troops don't just disappear like that. If he didn't make a mistake, where did he send the troops. Let him check once more in the catacomb and in the castle and in the allied castles. I have seen a bug before where the troops get stuck on the journey home, another place to check is the tracking tab in your keep.  If you see them there submit a support ticket and they can fix it.  

Also, in garrison tab if you have a lot of entries you can sort them by amount of troops.  Just click on the defense label until the ones with the most troops are at the top.  This will let you see if you sent them to the wrong place by accident.  

Gentlemen, let's be clear, the defense has simply disappeared!! The number of units decreased in statistics by 1.3 million and the defensive power per account decreased by 4.4 billion !! When I harvested the hamlet it happened, no one attacked me!Of course I wrote a report to Plarium and I brought the incident to their attention! I also received an incredible answer:

The first time you say that the Player from your league collected it, then that you collected it... We need to know the complete and true story.

3. If this problem happened to a player in your league, it is his duty to make these complaints. You cannot make them on behalf of another person.

4. Some pictures would help to support these statements, But you have to take into account that maybe the 50% boosts have disappeared, the champion is dead, the Dragon Stone is over. There are many factors that can influence the strength of troops. The most plausible reason is that the troops died, they cannot simply disappear. Did your player look in the infirmary?

It was like a year ago, there were multiple people who experienced it at around the same time.  Support tickets were filed and the troops were eventually freed up after several days.  I don't have the screenshots anymore, but plarium is aware of it (or was at the time anyways) and probably still has the info filed away somewhere.  Presumably whatever caused it has since been fixed, but old bugs reappearing after code updates isn't exactly unheard of.
