You hit a level 105 player in Dominus what did you expect? Being in Dominus he would be required to have a certain amount of troops to even join that league ....
They have a level 20 fort he is running the bonus castle skin (additional 10% defense bonus to troops) Paragon 14 gives 7% defense bonus, their fortress gives 20% bonus to troops, his hero gear gives him 66% bonus https://prnt.sc/ld40uj
not to mention whatever other bonuses he could be running and unit upgrades he has likely done so far
Hamlets are a death trap - if you are going to play them you need to spy them or test them with a smaller force if you hit a player like this with a smaller force and lose its likely they have it heavily defended
you need to scout and investigate the players you hit and determine if you are outmatched BEFORE you send your troops
Yep. Sending big attacks at hamlets is pretty much a guaranteed way to lose your entire army. It may not happen the first time, but it'll happen eventually. There are 1bn+ defence accounts on the server you play on (coined of course).
You can't "send all" willy nilly and not expect to pay the reaper in the end.
In the 3-4 yrs I have played I have NEVER sent my entire offence at anything where I didn't already know exactly what was inside and exactly what my losses would be from the fight. If you don't take the time and effort to do that then you put your entire offence at risk every time you send it.
And given the boosts these days, not only do you need to know what you are up against but you need to execute incredibly quickly or else find there is something significantly different inside when you arrive.
PS if you don't know the siege mechanics (which is probably why the battle results surprised you) then as you tend to overwhelming someone in a fight your losses become smaller and smaller (and theirs bigger and bigger).
Hamlets run under siege mechanics.
Raid mechanics (on castles) run so that both sides get pretty much identical losses.
