Hi. You need to enlighten your champion to be able to take it up to 35. 

You can see a color difference in Rank stars, Pink=Enlightened and Yellow=Not enlightened

in fact as Lord SyntaxError said you have to enlightment after leveling to 30 to get it able to level to 35

as this is not a bug if not the game mechanic i move this to game discussion

I have champion Level 4 and 4 Rank 30, must Enlighten first and then upgrade to Level 5 to go rank 35 ?

Most people wait to enlighten. If you wait increase rank to 5, take the legend to lvl 30 and get the 200 emerald reward and only then enlighten it will opens up the further 5 levels and when you reach lvl 35 you get another 200 emeralds. Enlightening before that remove the opportunity to get the first emerald reward.

(I assume it doesn't work waiting until rank 6 to double up the 400 emerald reward, not tried that out myself).

This is exactly correct !! also not sure about t he waiting to enlighten until 6 stars 

I Have an other champion i do not enlighten but it is 5 rank and the rank is too 30 give one more level, is any body know if the last level before upgrade is level 4 to enlighten and then upgrade to level 5 ?
