Several weeks, if not months ago I read an article about this. Sure you didn't use that psw and email address a long time ago somewhere else and forgot about it?  In the article I read it was just described as "fear tactics" to make people pay up, and whatever details they had could have been aquired and dated long back in time. 

To OP, if your password or partial password is leaked, change it immediately. I agree, if case may be, don't give in and pay any 3rd party wherever it may be.

I've used the application for over a year, no problems with it. 3 different scanners checking for viruses, spyware, maleware and other odds and ends. Not come across a single problem regarding Plarium Play. Nor have I recieved any e-mail, in-game message or Plarium message about the main problem reported by OP. In general I would like to see proof of the problem, too many are trying to make players blacklist or make Plarium look unsafe to be on (not saying this is the case this time, but happened in the past)

Be on the safe side. Use only one unique password for Plarium or any websites for that matter. If this password were to be leaked, any malicious party would be stuck at site/Plarium only. Do NOT let Plarium store "remember your account details" just for sake of the argument listed. Do not share any login details on any site with someone you meet online.

1), He didn't receive this from a ingame game account. He received this in e-mail.

Reason I say that is that the email and partial pw they supplied me as "proof" is only used on this site, no other site has either the email supplied or the password associated with it.

So just a public service announcement so nobody is tricked by this scam. It is recent past few days. So heads up folks dont be a duck and ignore the emails and move on with your lives.

And for Gods sake, dont pay these clowns a penny. Also..plarium, you might need to beef up your security walls a bit. Just saying.

Then again, it could be that one of the people who now use this account downloaded a virus by mistake and it sent it to me by default.

Why would plarium have sex videos?  Seems like a pretty strange scam to me.  But yeah what probably happened is the virus came from somewhere else and the once the persons computer was infected the virus caught their login info.

There is no virus in play.

They somehow got hold of your email address, or just bombard the net with random email names and get lucky with some, who knows...

The scam basically goes something like this "They claim they have hacked your email, and got access to all your contacts. And that they have evidence of you visiting naughty sites and you pleasing yourself in front of your web cam and they have recorded this. Then threaten to send this to all your email (social media) contacts, unless you pay them off with bitcoins...

I got one of these in a horrible google translated text too. It's just bad spam, nothing else...

This looks like social engineering to me. You gave your log in details to someone who shared them with the scammer. 

Then they sent you the mail. Its highly unlikely that Plarium was hacked. You should report the mail to Google and your network service provider. 

Plarium support team will not do much about this.

I am assuming you are using a Windows pc ... sorry I had to get that in

Ok seriously... Possible causes include:

1. Your computer is compromised i.e. 'keylogger' malware has installed itself on your system.

2. Flash has been compromised on your system - remarkably easy to do - which is why Flash is being obsoleted.

There maybe other possible causes but the above 2 are the most likely.

Solution:

a) clean your system of malware... many good tools available some are even free e.g. Ad-Aware .. (I don't use Windows so I'm not recommending or pushing any particular tool)

b) Remove Flash... restart you system and re-install a new copy of flash.

Do both a) and b) in this order !!

Problem will be solved (99% of the time)

As for the spams on the Forum , i can assure you hat we are doing our best for keeping clean and blocking the spammers .

I'm  warning  you about the text typed just in caps ( moderator Wesley did it too  ) , and about false accusations  against Plarium !

u are breaking down an equation to get to an answer way too much.usually here on forum answers are way easier

an account used by more than 2,3 players and alot of ways each could have done something that could compromise

even sharing the info by one of them is much more likely

the rest just kinda make people panic over stuff they dnt understand but seem scary

Thank you I think.. it's not meant to be scary.. just meant to point out that these things happen more often than people realize - it is not usually a major problem if you know how to deal with it... and that the issue is usually with the player's own computer and not Plarium servers. If Plarium had been 'hacked' almost everyone would have recieved these spam e-mails.

You are right, of course, there are other possible causes, but the two I specified are the most likely

Also.. the solutions I posted are easy to do (and should be done regularly if using windows)... no programming knowledge required just the ability to click with a mouse and about an hour for the cleaning process to complete... so in future people can resort to these solutions immediately without waiting a few days for someone to answer a forum post.
