The wisest advice will be rewarded with 2,000 Sapphires!

What is the single sagest piece of advice you would pass on to someone who wished to start a powerful League?

Pick your battles - do not try to take on more than you and your members can handle

The best advice I would give anyone wishing to start a new league is pick your friends very carefully. Expect your players to expand faster than your expectations. Use Diplomacy wisely. Ally and At Peace leagues can help or harm you very easily. Do not get too ambitious. Players will stay while you grow but leave quickly if you make bad decisions or cost them serious losses without a very good reason, remember most people play this game for fun.

All harsh and rude speech is Himsa. Harsh words to soldiers, neophytes, your Friends and those not in your league is Himsa. To wound the feelings of others by gesture, expression, tone of voice and unkind word is Himsa. To slight or to show deliberate discourtesy is wanton Himsa.

I forgot who told me these

how clear is your goal and how real is the desire to become better is what determine the success.

Play fairly and respectfully with others in the game if you want your league to succeed.  Patience and a kind word go a lot further than hard feelings and angry actions.  Stay calm and serene and most importantly take care of yourself before you do anything because league management does take a lot of time and energy.  Find a great cadre of people to work with and delegate responsibilities to where everyone feels a part.  Don't individualize and most of all Have fun.

My advice for new league would be to cooperate. All league members should have some deff and off available for league activities such as... when a league member is attacked without a reason all members should use that deff to prepare deff trap for attacker or prepare an retaliation when diplomacy fails.

Before starting a league, play the game in a league long enough to learn the does and don'ts of league play.  Learn from the mistakes of others.  Experience is the key to a successful league.
