There probably is some kind of limit but you may be right that it's just a technical one such as 99.999. Generally, though I appreciate that resources go to market rather than to the warehouses and granaries, it's a good place to stash a bit of reserve, far away from prying, and raiding, eyes :-). 

I've been leaving almost all of these resources in the market since day 1 and it's kind of comfortable when it's time to upgrade an Emporium or similar. Obviously this does not apply to sketches, but I suppose they're just being consistent in the way they handle these rewards and gifts.
