Besides, "your" chat is not "dead"... :D
It's not yours, it's the whole world's...
And it's dead because everybody is in coalitions and is not visiting it anymore.
I remember 2 years ago, there was quite some movement there, but we were all building and starting... Now coalitions are everywhere.
You can still give it some life though. New players join everyday, and they can see only this one. It's totally up to you to start talking. People will probably answer you. They'll be complete beginners, though. so get prepared. :)
There are no chambers.
Only one public (world) chat, and your own coaltion (private to the coaltion) chat. Nothing more.
As I said, it's up to you to say "hello". All users who are not in a coalition yet will see it, because it will be the only one showing to them.
When players are in a coalition, the matching chat is always selected by default, so they can't notice anything said on the world chat. That's why it's empty.
How the hell do you divide it into (sub)chambers ??? o_O
Oh, slash commands, got it. I wasn't even aware of this. ^^
Yeah, probably a recent addition to allow to create private chats, I guess ?
Well, private is private, right ? But I guess you're not forced to talk in private. In the old days, everybody was talking to everybody there.
Edit : I see it's now called "Regional chat".
Well, it's quite hard to figure out what "regional" is supposed to mean here.
When I joined, I could chat with everybody around. On the other hand, "around" wasn't much bigger than the area surrounding the 16 first pantheons centered on the map... ^^
I started outside this central area and got quickly enough encased inside the pantheons territories (from the next new pantheons addition, AFAIK).
I don't know if "regional" is meant about your surroundings on the map or your actual geographic location, but AFAIK, my first friends then were from everywhere on the map AND everywhere in the world.
Has anyhting actually changed there since then ? Apart from the new ability to create private "chambers"...
