As you mentioned both packages are the same but they have different discount percentage. The one has 50% and the other has 60%! That's why the 60% off is cheaper but gives you the same items and bonuses. I can't really tell you how these discounts actually work cause I don't actually know myself! Maybe someone else can shed some light for both of us!

Their marketing strategy confuses me in a huge way - i would purchase more packs (and larger ones when they offer what i need) if i was not going to be punished for spending money on the game.
If you spend - the stick becomes very very long and takes forever to return to its original size.
Hello, Archons! Well, basic price depends on the basic amount of Drachmas. Bonuses added are random (well, not completely random, but random within a certain range). So basically you buy the 99$ regular offer (16500+4200) and get some extra bonuses for your purchase. Sometimes you receive more, sometimes less.
All Items, Units, " for free" Drachmas are an additional bonus. You pay for a regular offer, not for the bonus.
As Sergey mentioned, in many cases these offers are randomized by special software. Your friend may have been lucky and received a lower base price due to a variety of factors.Lol. i nearly fell off my chair.

nothing random about it - purchase a $20 pack and the cheaper packs go away
purchase a $50 pack and the $20.00 are history
if you wait many months without spending a cent on the game the price will slowly come back down
palarium punishes its players that spend on the game
and as we sit - refusing to spend until the price comes back down (palarium looses many many possible sales) we become angry as other platers get cheap cut rate drach packs
The whole mechanism of special offers and "free" stuff is an insult to customer's intelligence... first the 3 "regular" offers that just sit there to justify the discounted offers. Nobody ever buys anything at the regular price so there is actually no discount, just a fake base price.
Then there are the shameless attempts to sucker players into buying an overpriced "revenge pack" right after they have lost a bunch of units. Using customer's emotional state to trigger an irrational decision to purchase "stuff" far above market price.
Finally the idea that the more you spend the more expensive it gets. For $10 you get 14,000 drachmas and X free extras. for $20 you get 18,000 drachmas and 1.2 X free extras? Does Plarium think we are total morons? When they move you up to the $20 pack level all the $10 offers disappear so you are supposed to forget how much the stuff used to cost and accept a 170% price increase? If I'm going to spring for a $20 pack I want 30K drachmas and 2.2X extra stuff. That's how volume discounts work!
I can wait for the $10 packs to return (which they do once the Plarium algorithm realizes you stopped buying anything) and while I wait I save a bunch of money. Good for me - bad for Plarium's profits. Plarium: Maybe you should take some marketing classes?

now they offer 50.00 packs that offer a chance at a tier 5 guardian
(only the odds of getting one are very very bad, of the 12 i know that purchased them zero found a tier5 guardian)
