A Summary Tutorial
Last edit: 05/11/2017
Hello everyone!
First, this post will be edited/ updated as needed. I will attempt to always include the last editing date at the top of this post.
This is going to be my attempt to correct some of the misinformation running around for certain game mechanics. Where possible I will use links to this forum. If they are not available, I will use links to the forums of other versions of the game should I believe the mechanics to be the same. Should no prior forum threads exist, I will use my own personal experience to fill in the gaps. As I come across new issues in game/ in forums I will try to address them in this post.
1. Base Defense
I have seen a few players saying that base defense applies only to the units owned by the base owner. This is not correct. Instead, base defense applies to all units in a base, including reinforcements from other players. Link: https://plarium.com/forum/en/soldiers-inc/game-tutorials/28623_base-defence-bonus/?post=175287
2. XM-7 Tactical Missile (See Alyona's comment below for confirmation on this forum ;D - Thanks again!)
I have seen talk about base defense canceling this unit out, as long as you have no units out. I have also seen talk that certain bonuses affect how much damage these units do. Unfortunately, there is no good link on the Soldiers forums for this, so I will link to another forum that I believe shares the same game mechanics. Here is a list of such links (note fireball = XM-7 Missile, lost art = contract):

https://plarium.com/forum/en/stormfall-age-of-war/archive/11595_fireball-offense-vs--castle-defense/
Here is a summary of the information:
i) Missiles completely ignore base defense.
ii) It is likely (I'm about 90% sure due to viewed screenshots, and from one of the links above) that missiles ignore contract level.
iii) (not included in the above links, this comes from screenshots I have seen comparing with and without stimulants) It is likely that missiles also ignore bonuses from stimulants.
