commander you send attacks on other commander's you engage and kill their units as well as steal their resources 

if there is an event running then you will earn points and receive rewards 

some tips:

1) attack when there is an event running (minimize losses by winning rewards)

2) attack players within your playing field (do not attack someone 20 lvl's higher than you)

3) send off units only in attacks and try not to attack allies also check your combine allies 

4)avoid top combines players especially if you are in a small combine
