Thought this issue was supposed to be rectified in last update.
Just fought boss battle on auto, screen timed out & when I reopened screen, had to log in again. No boss battle results, no final damage results on clan roster, but key used up ......wait another 6 hrs b4 i can hit again. ;(

This issue was resolved in the 1.0.6 update and the phone no longer locks screen mid-battle.
Most likely, the battle ended in your case and you were sitting in the battle results screen.
The game session was terminated because you were idle for a long time and this is why the game restarted after you resumed it.
We recommend that players always finish a battle before going AFK as this simple step can prevent the loss of Energy, Arena Tokens or Keys.
