I had the advanced task to beat a tag team with higher power than mine. I did but it did not register.

In my experience, the quest does not consider the total power of the three teams, but only of individual teams. So, you need to defeat one single team with higher power then your single team facing it (even if you lose to the two other teams), for it to work.
