Poor planning on your part if at level 70 the summon event is the only one you can't do.  This event was posted in the calendar at the start, and the bar was not raised from previous summons.  The total is quite reasonable. 

Not sure how you can plan for this. I never spent my shards unless I needed to for this event, started saving when I heard about this. Got 3 sacred which to me is 3 months. 

Wasn't the previous fusion only 2500? I don't remember ever having 3000. 

Was the expectation 3000? I certainly was caught off guard. Expected closer to 1500 :/

What  he  meant  by  posting  it  earlier  was  not  that  they  announced  there  would  be  a  summon  rush  event,  but  that  itd  be  nice  if  you  knew  the  point  breaks  you  have  to  hit  for  all  the  events  and  tourneys  at  the  start  of  the  overall  event  so  you  can  see  IF  its  even  possible  for  you  to  finish  everything.  That  way  you  dont  blow  resources  only  to  get  screwed  by  one  of  the  last  events.  Normally  this  wouldnt  be  an  issue,  but  since  Plarium  went  full  cutthroat  on  this  event  forcing  players  to  do  ALL  events  and  tourneys  or  miss  out  getting  Brogni,  i  agree  with  him.  It  used  to  be  you  could  skip  a  few  events  or  touneys  and  still  get  all  you  needed  for  the  prize  legendary.  And  the  fact  that  they  still  threw  in  the  line  “so  you  can  pick  and  choose  what  events  and  tourneys  you  do”  for  Brognis  event  is  laughable.  It  only  applys  to  anyone  that  can  finish  in  the  top  TWO  of  tournaments.  Its  just  greed  is  all.

Expectations were between 3000 and 4500 - the latter would have been unprecedentedly high, I was personally expecting more like 3500. 

I am also in this same boat. I have been playing for around 6 months and I was super excited about this fusion event. I will be screwed on this fusion however because lack of shards. And I wasn't able to pick and choose my events because the top 2 players in pretty much all events were massive whales. It's unfortunate because I love this game but this may end it for 

In the last 3 fusions, you had to get to 1070 for Brogni [edit - Yoshi], 1070 for Astralon, and 1070 for Iron Brago.  If you got to 3500, 3000, and 3000, you could have gotten the epic in addition to the legendary.  So, this is the level in the past you would have had to get to if you got the rare needed for the fusion but decided to also go for the epic.  It has been that way in pretty much every event so far.  Basically the bar for the epic and for the legendary is the bar for just the legendary this time.

I guess in those other fusions it was an option, it was for me because I could never get the 3000 (I knew from the start I can't get Astralon so never got him but got the others).

No longer an option so maybe that is the problem for me.

Still holding out hope that they'll recognize how arduous this is, and add another event or two. But worst case scenario, I can still pull this one off. Just will seriously drain my resources :/

Yoshi and Brago were fragment fusions, so no epics involved - but it's true that if you got all the other points, you didn't actually need the shards at 3000 / 3500, whereas now for Brogni you do (barring a lucky draw/big whaling to make top two in a tournament). So I guess I should amend what I said in another thread about this fusion not being any harder than past ones - in that regard, it is. Even though the shard totals for each champion add up to more than 100, the way they are split over events doesn't allow you to actually miss any shards.
