could also be "Provoke" debuff, which forces a champion to attack the Provoker with their default attack
no there was no Provoke. My one champion went to one opponent and my other champion went to another. While I had selected a completely different enemy.
Some Heros Skill is to attack the lowest HP enemy or to Counter attack when attacked
or a passive Counter Attack when an Ally is attacked
could just be the Skill Set on those specific heros overrides the Selected opponent icon
yes this is how I want to eliminate a certain opponent, so click on that opponent, but my champions attack others, very frustrating. That's why I also lose several times because of that.

Honestly - it sounds like you just mis-clicked. I've never seen it attack a different target than I had chosen, except in the cases where I fat-fingered the wrong target.

no, I didn't click wrong, because I see a red circle around the selected opponent
Can confirm.
Even when clicked, champions try to priorities enemies with defensive debuffs / without buffs.
