I used to auto-ing fire knight and am right now can auto up to FK 13, and I don't think I ever have any problems with the AI...You probably need to speed tune her so she moves after the shield is moved away.
And if you want to use her A1, you better have an AoE counter attack cham.
Are you seriously asking that? Most people who can auto stage 13 can easily do 16 or 17 on manual, but since the AI is so atrocious you need a much stronger team on auto. Yes, the AI is terrible in the game overall. But FK has to be the most painful to watch....lol

After a very long intense 10 min battle, My heroes can kick there feet up and rehydrate with a nice refreshing brew.

I don't know when they stop on the progression up the levels (probably high teens), but I don't get brews or ancient shards in L20 Dungeons.

FK AI is definitely annoying. I watch the auto-battle about half the time, and if it gets too far out of sync with what I want, I take over for a couple of turns to get it back on track...One of my favorite moves is when Skullcrusher throws up CA on his first move after Pyro attacks.
