That wasn't an option. But I agree with you the passive ability of Reddit, "Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany" is undefeatable. 

I don't really use Reddit for anything, so I really don't know much about how it works.

they're bots that edit in phishing links later on. (and also attract other bots to the thread later, too)

So what your saying if I understand  it correctly is they try and get people to respond the the thread

Perhaps the people responding might even say something positive

Then they come back and EDIT their post and/or add  more posts with Links attached (to click on)

Then after that all unfolds..........................a new viewer reads the thread and sees all the responses and thinks  its a Legit post and clicks the Link out of curiosity

and of those  who do this 1%   get snatched???

The account has already been banned so no risk of that but yes that's the gist of it.  Cast a wide net and see what gets caught in it.
