Well I won't have this problem becasue I went to sleep the other day and forgot to kick off my team to finish the Dungeon Diver. Maybe I will go all in on the extra as this is going to be one champion I really don't want to miss out on.
If you're hoping to pull the void rare or the epic from shards - I'd strongly suggest you don't bother. Your odds are really quite low.
Ugggghhhhhh now I gotta watch raid videos????
So. The tl;dr is - it's definitely inconsistent. You need them to steal the big shield buff and spread it, but you can't really run it on auto, and if they steal things badly, it messes the run up. It seems like it can work, but it's probably not worth building a team around.
That is certainly what I expected it to be like. It is like you need the opposite of a Mischief Tank.
You need a toon that can self buff (with an ability they don't need the rest of the time) to become the Mischief target when you are ready for the shields to be stolen, and you need high Res on everyone else.
A high damage, lower Res Ma'Shalled would be a perfect choice. Don't use his A3 until you want the shield buff stolen. You don't really need it for Hydra anyway.
The bigger challenge there, is running on auto - though I guess you just turn the A3 off, and come back after an hour or so when the shield is big enough, and hope nothing messed up in terms of order of turns. Bronco definitely didn't seem thrilled with the team, though.
Well, I have not yet found a team (on any difficulty) that I can run on auto to even get half the damage of a manual run, which is why I loved your suggestion of a 300 turn cap. That would make all Hydra runs shorter for everyone, while still demonstrating a mastery of the mechanics.

I'm all for less time in Hydra.

Sounds miserable.
