What's your definition of "net positive"? Are you expecting to earn more resources than you invest? Because if so ... you may need to find another game to play. You'll never earn back the energy/gems/shards you use. That would be the literal opposite of a functional business model.

basically you pay ressources to get a artifact so it will never be a tournament that gets you net worth more than you invested. thats why there is energy regeneration/gems/quests etc etc. the events/tournaments rewards are on top. a cherry you want/need or you skip to safe ressources for a later tournament/event. and you have to manage your ressources previous months before the tournament starts. usually going to zero with something without any benefit is just not smart. for example i had 5 sacreds, and was saving for some months my void shards and pulled 40 of them. finished the rest with maybe 10-15k energy, i could have pulled hundreds of mistery shards or some ancients. but i decided to go the biggest part of the energy with dragon hard 10 and some other various things like spider for silver etc etc. it takes you a big amount of a year to get a specific champion to 5-6star blessing. imo this little sacrifice was worth it. just dont pop shards if you dont get anything extra out of it, never. 

Pretty sure this ice golem tourney is the worst set of rewards i've ever seen.

3000 points to get a glyph? 2350 for ONE ancient shard?

Have to agree. Greater pots, rare books. Easiest skip ever. Seems geared towards low level players. Which is weird as reward structure changes every 20 levels or so.
