Clan Boss Stun

Hi, wanting some advise on the stun.  When the clan boss uses his stun it his according to Max Health:

A1 Crushing Force [ATK] Attacks 1 enemy. Places a
[Stun] debuff for 1 turn. This debuff cannot be resisted. Damage
inflicted is proportional to enemy MAX HP. 

Does this mean reducing the health of the character taking the stun may help that character get hit for less or do I compensate by adding more HP or Defense?

Technically speaking, yes, having lower max HP means less damage taken - you can see the numbers here: https://imgur.com/a/ebytw5F

But that isn't really something you should be aiming for. Rather, because the damage scales on max HP, it just means you need enough DEF to survive it - which is something you can quite literally math out. The formula for damage taken is:

Or, put another way, clearly you need to reduce the damage to less than 100% of your HP. Without shield or ally protect, that's pretty hard to do past around turn 34 (where you'd need 100/510 ~= 80% DR ~= 4200 DEF after DEF up). 

Most teams that need to go further than that, rely on the aforementioned shield/ally protect to get them further.
