Yes.  I don't see it as trouble.  It's an opportunity to see which stats you have on specific sets.  

Example: Say you want to find the right combination of Lifesteal and Perception.  Lifesteal is a 4 artifact set and Perception is 2. You don't particularly care about the top row maint stats, they are always the same.  But say you want Crit Rate gloves and Accuracy Chestpiece.  The fitting room is a great way to figure out which artifact you want from which set.  This also allows you to makes sure you have what you want without actually equiping them and having to pay to remove.

Side note: I don't know how new you are to the game, but unless you are speed tuning a clan boss team or an arena team, you should always look for speed in the substat.  Upgrade each artifact to level 8, if you don't get at least one extra roll on spd, sell the artifact.
