You might try reading the requirements for points.  You get points for level upgrades and rank upgrades. Not ascending.  This is standard in ALL training EVENTS.  You get points for ascending only in training TOURNAMENTS.

Always important to double check with each Hero's Path what's actually going to give you coins (and how much), but here is what this one looks like:

To add to the above, each Hero Path has a different set of requirements.  Some Hero Paths need you to summon champions, others to collect artifacts from dungeons, etc.  When one Hero Path finishes and the next one starts, always double check to confirm what the requirements are before proceeding
