The mastery description says "once per skill". So if your attack hits 3 random times at different targets it can trigger on any of the hits applied, but only once. That would mean if you AOE, it could apply to anyone hit by the AOE. But it will only proc ONCE, meaning only one enemy can take the warmaster damage.
So unless i'm mistaken, if you want the possibility of bonus damage to proc for all enemies in an AOE attack, you're better off with Giant Slayer. If you want a better chance to proc on only one enemy regardless of attack type, then go with Warmaster.
