I'm not sure what "missing a day" has to do with prestige. It used to be related to Daily Roster, but even that changed a long time ago.
As for Plarium still "giving" prestige points in tournaments, packs, normal battles,... I reckon it's there for newer players which, at least in theory, do exist. Admittedly, I have no idea how many legitimate newbies we get, say, per month.
Quite a while ago, it was promised that prestige would run beyond level 10, as it is in some of the other Plarium's games (for example, Stormfall, I think). Sadly, last I heard was that these plans are on indefinite hold.
IMO, this is typical of Plarium's features: they are added without much consideration about the future, and then never revisited or updated. Kinda like idols (which, only after constant nagging for players, were updated a bit with the ability to buy items for them), or relics (which only had a minor update to be able to sell them for a ridiculously low amount of res, many years ago), or pearls (that, AFAIK, haven't had any updates since day 1) or...
@Andrew, I like the suggestion of getting a choice when buying packs or trading excess prestige points. I don't see either implemented, but I'll pass your suggestions to Plarium anyway.

I forgot that this exists. Mine is at 1235 days, which is probably when they reset it for all of us from Kabam. It's a meaningless number with no purpose.
