I may not be that great at math but if I have 15k defense out and 16k haven defense number - shouldn't that be able to absorb 1 damn fireship that is supposed to inflict 12500 damage without losing my cannon. w t f. If you guys can't make the numbers work what's the sense even having defense.
The numbers are fine. Fireships kill 12.6k of basic points, i.e., no bonuses included. That means that haven def bonus is ignored, as are research, relics, potions,... A Bonnie, for example, is worth 19. You could have an overall bonus of 200% and it would still be worth 19 to a Fireship. However, when you recall from harbour, the 15k that you saw is the full strength, bonuses included, that would've come into effect (together with the haven def bonus) if you were hit the old fashioned way.
And before you tell me that it makes no sense, I agree with that statement, but Plarium's in charge here, not me.
There are ways to counteract Fireships to a certain degree. For example, having some expendable off, like Marauders, out in the open will diminish the effect of Fireships because:
1. Fireships hit units' (basic) score. For def, that means basic def score (19 per Bonnie), but for off that means basic off score (40 per Marauder). So, a FS will kill 12600/19 = 663 Bonnies, but only 12600/40 = 315 Marauders.
2. When you kill defensive off (i.e., you kill off by attacking it), you only get 1/6 of normal points. That means that a FS killing 315 Mars won't get 315 PvPs, but only 53.
3. With some ruby investment, you can get your infirmary to max. level to revive half of that off for free.
Depending on how often you get hit with FSs and how often with normal hits, how much you mind sacrificing units that are not really good for anything by sacrifices (like prizes), and how much you value that your enemies literally waste Fireships when they hit you, using some measure of expendable off in defence makes sense.
Of course, there are id... errr... not very smart players out there who will think that they've hit jackpot for killing some Marauders, which could attract more Fireships (hence "how much you value that your enemies literally waste Fireships when they hit you" above).
IMO, Fireships are good against mostly def. Significant amount of off and I think it's smarter to send a proper attack.
The smartest defence, as always, is to spend down and turtle. Let them hit your empty haven. Build up your harbour as much as possible and that's it.
Remember: sketches are expensive, but they are just a one-time investment (and we do get 30% global discounts... don't buy outside of those).
They added special haven defense against attackers and fireships (sorcery) in other games ... but obviously will never add them to PToF
Spirit Wardens are new FREE haven guard units which can be upgraded many times using small amounts of normal resources
New Haven Skins are available which stop fireships, but think they are all temporary coiner skins (as usual)
Wonder why plarium hate this game so much
I agree that best defense is an empty castle ... or build 315 marauders
p,s, My brother died and I was away for 2 weeks - logged back in to find my own brotherhood has a new leader
Thanks for nothing plarium - I have always said 2 weeks was a ridiculous decision.
Why not 2 months?
There are several upgrades that other games got, but not for PToF, for example the prestige, I too am not sure why we do not get these upgrades that they give to other games, it would be interest to find out why.
I'm not sure why the change in leadership of your bh, perhaps it was requested so he/she could do an activity, that only the leader could do.
Good luck and pleasant sailing

I'm sorry for your loss. Also, welcome back.
I agree that 2 weeks is too little. Actually, I still see no reason for all this "inactivity" nonsense. It should be players' decision to kick those not active enough, whatever "enough" means for them.

I find it extremely interesting that devs refused to add inactivity to Stormfall etc - Yet again, PToF players are singled out for experimentation ... but when a feature fails with many complaints they ignore us.
All they did was remove the main reward for activity - Free Prestige Activation
It is ironic that our Leader in Stormfall has been inactive for 168 days and we can't get rid of him - http://prntscr.com/k8hgzj
The process is fully automatic and relentless - there is no way to stop it - http://prntscr.com/k8h3mr
Even tho Graybeard refused to accept leadership and left the bh, Anne Bonnie gave it to Ahoy instead without any consultation
Ahoy does not communicate and may not even speak English
If the entire bh had been disbanded I would get my 2000 rubies back - http://prntscr.com/k8fw23
