I forgot the numbers and cannot find the old topic where I answered it before. If you tell me what the game states for upgrading to level 1, I'll be able to calculate how much to level 5.

Note that doing this the slow way can be very units-consuming. I suggest you just ruby it up (shouldn't be more than 20k rubies, but I'm not completely sure).

You can get almost 30k rubies for $20, even for a bit less if you're lucky. Be on a lookout for "specials", like this one:

Also, def could cost more than $60, depending on how hard and often others hit you.

Nevertheless, my offer still stands: tell me how many stones from zero to one (which, I'm guessing, you can see in your Bastion now) and I'll be able to answer your question.

Piece of advice though, don't defend your bastion while you're getting to level 5 or even after. Players tend to target low level bastions  and you'll lose def needlessly. Unless you're able to have enough def to withstand a hit at the rum limit don't defend. The rum limit I believe at the low levels is 200,000. At max possible hit with straight jugs thats 50k. Also keep upgrading your knowledge even if your bastion level doesn't match, eventually you'll be there and you'll be glad you did.

This sounds weirdly cheap to me. Level 5 to 6 costs 16800 stone blocks (8400 rubies), not even counting the boosts. Nevertheless, I'm happy that it worked out for you.

Just don't buy anything except those specials and never over $10, and you should never drop below 1k rubies per $1 (bigger offers have worse ratio).

Also, like Icy said: don't put any units on that Bastion. No point in defending it when it cannot be downgraded, so keep your units for something useful.

we only had to buy 1 lot of stone block as we had been collecting them on the challenges , also the bastion had been to lev 4 a few times and got downgraded by the horde every time we tried to upgrade so we had lots of blocks already

Sadly, low level Bastions are in demand, for cheap tournament points. Rubying them to level 5 is the only reasonable way to build.
