Notes to new players - fun game but you will be punished for supporting w real $
Howdy boys -
Been playing MA for a couple months now - starting playing at the same time as my son. I think it's a fun game and do not begrudge the devs from wanting to be profitable, but wanted new players to know what to expect.
From the get-go our accounts have been treated differently, even though our Inventory and Hanger power has stayed roughly the same:
1) He gets acoins for watching ads, I've never had that option
2) He regularly gets offers for 1-3 legendary items and mechs for $2-$5, I never seen anything less than $10 and usually $15
It's been pointed out elsewhere, but I will repeat for new players: MA uses an algorithm that punishes you for supporting them. If you feel like splurging and buying a $5 item to support the company, they will then start giving you increasingly expensive items. If you do not support their company, they will keep making offers cheaper and cheaper to entice you.
It kind of stinks because I was always at an acoin disadvantage to my son so I partly invested in items with $ to keep pace. Now I'm getting milked like a whale lol. I believe in supporting people who make fun games. My idea of support is $50-$70 total (like if you had to buy a game outright) - I don't think peeps should have to pay literally $100s on a mobile game.
Some tips for new players if you want to stay competitive (all have been said better by others before):
1) Resist buying everything and progressing too fast - you will never beat matchmaking. Set a budget and space your purchases out. Once you reach and pay more (say $10 for a mech, odds are you will never get $2-$5 offers again.)
2) Do NOT open up a 5th mech slot. It is much better to have fewer, more powerful mechs, than more, weaker mechs. Trust me on that.
3) If you do buy things, buy from the Flash Deal section and not the Armory section of the Shop. My understanding is that the former is based on your buying history and the later your level.
4) You can have a lot of fun and be successful and use most of the high-end gear by staying below 3k hanger power. To do that, you have to buy legendary items with $ at 1-3 star and be cautious about ranking them up. If you buy them with acoins in the gear hub they will be be 4star or higher and you will get catapulted into higher hanger power and get crushed by whales.
5) Most of the events are complete Cr@p. I see folks who have gotten panthers, eclipses, pilots etcs. through events but I haven't had that opportunity. I have something like 100 gold crates and 500 silvers waitning to capitalize on an event with a decent prize, but to no avail. It's all just skins and other junk I wouldn't want.
There is a lot more but that's enough for now. I like the game, but it feels like I would have had more fun in the earlier stages. Many of these games start out great, but then they get too greedy and try to squeeze the player base for all they're worth. I think we are in that stage now.
