Remove mortars

people have been complaining about mortars for a really long time and honestly, no amount of nerfs could really change how annoying they are, they shoot straight up which lets you hide behind cover so you never have to leave and have massive splash damage. Nobody likes mortars and at this point, what's the point of their existence? They just make people more angry with the game and more likely to quit do to the unfair advantage mortars have against a player not using mortars. If mortars were to be permanently removed, I doubt many people will be angry most of the community (that I met) hates mortars.

Hello! I need to admit that removing any Content is impossible, as it would definitely impact the existing balance. Such a move is a much deeper change of the whole game than it may seem. However, we will consider your suggestion and will see what we can do if the number of such report increase.

Mortars aren't actually that much of a problem. They may hurt you, but they don't really do much. It's easy to avoid them and once you catch the camper he's a goner. Compared to other weapons, the rocket mortars are very weak.

This is just flat our wrong on every single count.

  • Mortars can one hit kill even on some tank mechs
  • Massive AOE that can hit you even at a full sprint or if you are under a roof/building/structure
  • No LOS required so no risk to the mech using Mortars from return fire
  • Range covers the magority of most maps
  • Extreamly poor map design means most maps have almost no viable areas to take cover from mortars
  • Extreamly poor map design allows mortar mechs to shoot from BEHIND their own spawn points
  • They rewards BONUS points for getting kills despite the fact they require the LEAST skill to use

No this is just flat out wrong.  Any match that doesnt have someone using RM is a better experince and more fun than a match that includes RM.  Additionally their existance makes any slow mech baisically unplayable.  They ONLY negativly impact the game, they add 0 positives.  But please continue sticking your head up your *** and ignoring the constant feedback you've gotten on RM.

This is very true.  I use a mortar-12 on a single mech.  It RARELY kills anyone, and when it does it is because they are either standing still or are already heavily damaged.  My other weapon is a minigun-8, and this is what SOMETIMES saves my life when fast mechs get inside of my mortar range or get me on the LONG reload times.

On my other mechs I know NOT to stand still, and when I get the warning of incoming weapons, I MOVE!  Mortars hardly ever get me as a result.

I'm willing to bet that the people that complain the most about mortars are snipers.  They like to sit back, and oneshot people w/ EM rifles from long range.  Mortars are one of the few effective counters to their step out, kill, step back and hide tactics.

Not to mention that most of the new make already make mortars useless.  Giant cooling towers in the middle of the map blocking cross map shots, low roofs that make the weapon useless, etc.

How would it disrupt balance? If anything removing mortars will bring more balance to the game, mortars alone have caused massive problems in the game, mortar is a counter to almost every item in the game and if they were removed, everything would simply just become better experience for new and old players alike

You have the radius implant also?

stick a legendary implant and you'll see exactly what we mean.🫤 That not even the worst part, these stupid mortar bots have legendary implants and pilots that have that make it possible to be one shot, and the AOE is so HUGE that nothing can escape it radius except maybe a killshot, surge, slingshot, or a redeemer. Whilst it may be true if can sneak up on a mech using mortars there are only two mechs that can do that: Shadow and eclipse but what good is it when frick'n 3 mortar bots kill you in the first 3 seconds of the game.😑
