It took me a while to get the hang of it. I find it's like that with all FFA maps, you really got to play them a while until you get the spawn points, etc down. But Freeside is different b/c the spawns are the same. It is my least favorite FFA map but ultimately I learned to do quite well on it and I enjoy playing on it now too.
Try to get in the habit of looking at the mini map on your first spawn to figure out where you are. Ditto any accidental spawns where you don't pick the spot. Overall constantly checking the mini map is one of the most important skills in the game anyway and it is very important on Freeside to see if enemies are approaching and wherea concentration of targets are. Also look around to see where other human players are and then you'll know that for future spawns. The main thing zi think when picking a spawn point is to get the hang of human enemy positions, and bot layout. Like if you're dropping a sniper, you want ducks in a row but not close to the spawn. But for Surge, a cluster of bots near the spawn can be good.
