I activated my XP booster and haven't gotten the additional XP Boost.

Hello, Lord! XP boosts should work fine. I've just tested this on my game account. Please, notice how many XP you get without this item and when the item is active.

The bonus xp isn't displayed separately, you just get more xp from stuff than you normally would.  Try doing a few bgs without the booster, then do the same levels with the booster, and you should be able to tell the difference.
