Mech Arena Praise & Suggestions
Dear Mech Arena,
I started playing Mech Arena several years ago, (maybe around 4 years ago), for a good chunk of time, but I unfortunately lost interest after a year or two of playing due to the difficulties of progressing, (specifically because of weapon & mech prices, and the overall pay-to-win aspect of the older versions). However, I logged on about 8 - 12 months ago just because I was curious about any game developments that happened during my long absence, and what I saw absolutely blew my mind! The weapon & mech re-pricing was by far the crown jewel of the long-due changes finally being made, but the mod systems & additions of new mechs/weapons have also generally improved the game as a whole! Plus, the consistent rebalances have allowed for a much better experience for all players, (but especially the free-to-play players)! So, overall I wanted to congratulate you for all the hard work that has clearly been put into this mobile game, and how Mech Arena is now a much more fair & engaging experience for all players. However, I personally have two ideas that could potentially tweak the game so that it can live up to its fullest potential.
The first idea that I've been brainstorming recently is this: It can be very difficult & time consuming to save up all of the blueprints & acoins necessary to rank up a mech or weapon, (especially legendary grade items). So, maybe a system could be created where you could convert blueprints you already have of a weapon into blueprints of the same exact weapon but for a differing energy level. Some important rules/limitations that may have to be applied if this were to become a real possibility may include; a conversion rate of '2:1' (for every two blueprints you put in you only get one out), you can only convert blueprints of the same weapon, and you can only convert blueprints into an adjacent energy level of that weapon (no jumping from 8 to 12 or vice-versa, you have to go one energy level at a time). For example, imagine you have twelve blueprints for Pod Gun 8 but you need blueprints for Pod Gun 10 instead, then you could convert the twelve Pod Gun 8 blueprints into Pod Gun 10 blueprints with the 2:1 ratio, so you would wind up with six Pod Gun 10 blueprints by the end. Now, I do think this idea could use some adjustments; like maybe it could only be used for weapon blueprint conversions, (mainly because it is annoying to have to rank up high energy weapons to get the double, and this would significantly help), or a more rigid/steep conversion rate instead like 3:1 or even 4:1 depending on the rarity of the item. I know that you would want to iterate & fine-tune the exact mechanics of this system, and that's fine, just please try to do something about the frustrating amounts of time & effort that it takes to double a high energy weapon, even if it isn't my exact idea.
The other adjustment that I have actually been considering for a long time is another price rebalancing, but specifically for legendary grade items that cost acoins. I personally think that the credit pricing for legendary grade items is in a very good situation at the moment, mainly because of the relative abundance & easiness of collecting large amounts of credits for legendary purchases, but the opposite is true for the legendary acoin price tags. The acoin currency as a whole is generally very difficult & time-consuming to amass large quantities of, which is a major problem for the later game mech & weapon purchases that require very high amounts of acoins to afford. I know that this may be asking a lot, and I don't want to seem greedy, but it is just incredibly time consuming for free-to-play gamers, like myself, to save up all of those valuable acoins. Plus, you have to be a very consistent & dedicated Mech Arena gamer to even achieve one or two legendary acoin purchases, but if you tend to be more casual & layed back then it is highly improbable that you actual manage to progress at all in the later levels of the game, (especially for free-to-play players, but even for those who are more willing to spend money on the game). So, I think a possible solution could be to lower the quantity of acoins necessary to purchase a legendary item by one half, and if that temporary change proves to negatively effective the overall balance of the game, then maybe move to a less generous one third or even one quarter price tag reduction for these legendary acoin items. Once again, I don't want to seem greedy or ungrateful, I just legitimately think that this adjustment could really improve the overall appeal of Mech Arena.
This game has so much potential to be something not only great, but also entertaining & inclusive for players of all types. Please try to consider the problems that were addressed in this email, as well as the potential sloution(s) that were brought up in addition too. If you are interested further in what I have to say, then please get back to me and I would be happy to share more possible ideas to solve these unique problems. However, if the problems & plausible fixes that I outlined in this email do not seem effective/reasonable to you, then I will trust the Mech Arena experts to do what is best for the game. In conclusion, you've done a wonderful job so far, so please try to continue the vital progress being made!
Sincerely,
'Yes'
